Still Ill & Cubik Present:
GALAXIANS (Leeds, Stargaze/Dither Down/Rotating Souls)
COWTOWN (Leeds, City Hands / The Audacious Art Experiment)
CUBIK After party (Leeds/Newcastle, Constant State Records / LBL)
SATURDAY DECEMBER 13th 2014
DOORS 8pm – LATE
GALAXIANS are Jed Skinner (synths // programming) and Matt Woodward (drum kit // programming).
In 2014 the band’s vinyl EPs – ‘Personal Disco Component’ and ‘Galaxians’ – released on US dance labels Dither Down (Brooklyn, NYC) and Rotating Souls (Atlanta, GA) respectively, sold quickly in both Europe and the US, with universally rave reviews from stores, buyers and press alike. They have also featured on both vinyl releases on upcoming DIY dance label Stargaze (Leeds, UK).
Taking their cues from 80s NY / Chicago labels such as SAM, Are ‘n’ Bee, TRAX, and Sleeping Bag , and producers such as Leroy Burgess and John Morales, Galaxians fuse classic Roland TR analog drum machine sounds with acoustic drums and analog synthesizers played live. Their live shows have earned them a reputation as an exciting and joyous spectacle, with the soulful energy of both the human hand and heart always at the forefront of their live sets.
Galaxians have shared stages with acts such as Tom Tom Club, The Juan Maclean, Golden Teacher, Zombie Zombie, Ultramagnetic MCs and Ital. They have toured the UK and Europe extensively since 2012.
COWTOWN – Party rock from Leeds. Occasionally referred to as pop on account of them not sounding that much like a conventional rock band.
Back in Sunderland to bray yer lugs reet off with their music and jumpers.
CUBIK are Jo Howard & Clark ‘Pav’ Davison from the North East of England who started organising parties in early 2012 Sunderland. As well as being residents at their own renowned Cubik events they frequently appear at some of the North’s finest underground nights and resident the Tourist Parties.
Having began working on their own sound in late 2013, they have caught the attention of exciting and innovative new labels, with releases forthcoming in the summer of 2014 on Constant State Records and LBL.
Playing alongside the likes of Daniel Avery, Todd Terje and Last Waltz, to name a few, the duo have been showcasing their eclectic and somewhat cosmic direction.
