RELEASE YOURSELF IV // Wharf Chambers // 15.02.14

We’ve missed you Dancers; it feels like this party has been a long time coming. We’re excited and we’ve prepared something really special for you this time around. I’s been worth the wait.

We’re so happy to announce that Darren Pritchard is coming to Vogue for us and set the night off! Darren is one of a handful of truly talented traditional Vogue dancers in the country, he comes from a vibrant Ball scene in Liverpool and we’re proud to be brining him to the floor in Leeds. I saw him first at the Manchester Vogue Ball – he truly turned it out!

We have Body Beat coming all the way from Lille France to play for us. Expect sensational funk and pounding electro – they’re going to get your body jacked. This is the second date of their European tour and I know they are keen to party really hard with us, expect beaming smiles all round.

Leeds own disco greats Galaxians will be tearing it it up for us. I’m sure you have fond memories of them at our first party, we’re proud to have them back.

Leeds Game Program will kick off the night around 9pm. So come early for the bands Dancers and then stay late for Marklion and Release Yourself DJs playing a mix of gorgeous, triumphant and eclectic disco and house records until the morning comes.

All this for £5.

Release Yourself prides itself on bringing you all together to dance and get close, we work to make a mixed night full of friends and welcoming of strangers. TAKING THE PLUNGE INTO 2014

Galaxians will be playing alongside That Fucking Tank at Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen in Leeds on New Years’ Eve 2013.

Here’s more about That Fucking Tank:

‘A two-man barrage of drums and guitar that sounds like war … contains the most righteous sound ever committed to tape. Lightning Bolt and Death From Above 1979 might have been rocking the bro beats’n’strings dynamic a few years back while That Fucking Tank were still largely unknown, but it’s our boys from Leeds who look set to be victors in the longer campaign.’

We played with them earlier this year at the Brudenell Social Club and also had the pleasure of seeing them in the sunshine at Beacons Festival in August. In for a treat.

GALAXIANS TO SUPPORT ITAL (100% PURE SILK) AT NEWLY-OPENED BELGRAVE MUSIC HALL, LEEDS

We are very pleased to announce that along with our pal Game_Program (aka Jon Nash of Hookworms / Nope / Cowtown) we have been confirmed as support for 100% Pure Silk recording artist and former Mi Ami member Daniel Martin-McCormick, otherwise known as Ital, in Leeds on 10th October. From FACT magazine:

“You may already know Daniel Martin-McCormick from his work as one half of Thrill Jockey duo Mi Ami, or his solo endeavors as Sex Worker.

Lately though, he’s been releasing some of the most vital-sounding house music around, under the name Ital. ‘Ital’s Theme’, released this year on Amanda “L.A. Vampires” Brown’s Not Not Fun sub-label, 100% Silk, was a raw, acid-eroded gem in itself, but nothing could have prepared us for ‘Culture Clubs’, a sunblind epic of rough percussion, luscious chords and elements that work against each other as effectively as they work with each other. He’s also collaborated with Brown on the recent Streetwise release, and most recently, released a sterling edit of Candi Staton.

Ital is at the forefront of something more interesting than just great tracks though – along with D’eon, Laurel Halo and the 100% Silk label in general, he represents a generation of Americans taking outsider aesthetics and unpredictable song structures, and applying these to classic house and techno. In addition to this we are very excited to have been invited to play at the new Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen, soon to be opening it’s doors in Leeds. This new and exciting venue is hosting some fantastic acts and DJs over the next few months and is the brainchild of the Super Friends promotional team whose other projects include Beacons festival, The Iron Wagon and more.

RELEASE YOURSELF III at Wharf Chambers, Leeds, May 4th 2013…..

Pat, Henry, and Matt host their third party at their favourite co-operative-run venue in Leeds City Centre, Wharf Chambers. Based on the intimate parties hosted by David Mancuso at his legendary loft space in New York during the 1960s and 70s, Release Yourself aims to bring people together in the hope that a shared love of community, music, and dancing can both unite and liberate!

“We hope you’ll agree that four months feels like too long since our last party, so we’re really excited to be able to invite you to do it all again on Saturday the 4th of May.

We’d love it if you could all join us on the dance floor for a third night of high energy, free expression and uptempo records that we hope will make for another memorable party.

When we created the Vagabonds Breakfast Club we set out to bring you new and exciting ways and places to socialize – providing you, our adventurous band of vagabonds, a unique night of partying to look forward to on sparingly spread dates throughout the year. We promise a unique night of great value eating, drinking & partying hard – and after a great first VBC, our Christmas New York Loft Party at Munro House back in December, we think we’ve delivered even BIGGER with this, our next party!

Our desire to be different has lead us to try our best to take you to locations where other Leeds party providers don’t tread… and so here we are… with our second installment of the Vagabonds Breakfast Club – we’re leading the way with a first for Leeds – it’s time to ‘get in there like swimwear’ – for the Vagabonds Breakfast Club Pool Party.

About our amazing outdoor swimming pool – Ilkley Lido
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The setting – Ilkely Lido is a truly beautiful spot. It is the only outdoor pool in the area and is one of Britain’s last few remaining public outdoor swimming pools. Just minutes from Ilkley town centre, the lido’s beautiful far ranging views across Ilkley Moor and the famous Cow and Calf makes it even more special. It features gorgeous art deco architecture, including the Café building which will become our dancefloor for the night. So… It’s not surprising it ranked highly in the Telegraph’s top 10 lidos in the country.

Included as part of the ticket price, you’ll be whisked away to the Lido by coach from a Leeds city centre pick up – and of course dropped back in Leeds when the pool party closes.

To swim… or not to swim

The party will be amazing whether you decide you want to take a plunge in the pool or not! But for those that wish to ‘get in there like swimwear’ – you will be allowed to swim for the first hour and a half of the party before you start eating and drinking.

While our swimmers take to the pool we’ll spark up the coals on the BBQ in preparation for a Gourmet Feast of barbequed meats & salads – just the ticket after an icy plunge in the Lido’s beautiful outdoor pool. Vegitarian options will also be available.

A variety of drinks will be available to suit all budgets… and of course there’ll be Vagabonds Breakfast Club suitably themed one-off cocktails to suit our aquatic adventure!

It wouldn’t be a Vagabonds Breakfast Club without some great music.

During our early swimming session – poolside music will be provided by a live set from GALAXIANS. Fresh off the back of their UK tour, this will mark a fitting end to the tour for them – and an awesome start to the summer for us!

Taking their cues from 80s NY / Chicago labels such as SAM, Are ‘n’ Bee, TRAX, and Sleeping Bag – expect analog synth driven electro to set the pace while you take to the pool.

As the night progresses there’ll be disco driven DJ sets from Lucy Locket plus more DJs to be announced.

Return coach travel will be provided to the Lido from Leeds City Centre – coach pick up will be from the layby next to Leeds train station at 5pm and the coach will depart the Lido at 1am – more info will be provided to those who purchase tickets.

They will be available on a first come first served basis – numbers are very restricted – it’s going to be a sell out – so grab them quick!
