/// GLXNS /// ANNOUNCED AS SUPPORT FOR TOM TOM CLUB @ BRUDENELL SOCIAL CLUB 27.06.13!!

music-never-CLICKThe last couple of days have been pretty much a rollercoaster of pre-tour panic, serious practicing (aided by Twiglets, coffee, and chocolate biscuits), sheer elation, and too much time spent peering into laptops….

But without doubt the best thing that has happened this week, aside from getting our masters back from Atlanta, has been the announcement on Twitter on Thursday that we have been officially confirmed as the special guest support for Tom Tom Club at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds, on June 27th. The show will be a Glastonbury warm-up for Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz’ seminal cult outfit of the 80s, and we are looking forward to this one immensely.

    See below for details…

    Hope to see you there!

    A Very Special Glastonbury Warm-Up show with…

    TOM TOM CLUB

    plus special guest support

Known For Timeless Hits Such As Genius Of Love And Wordy Rappinghood, Tom Tom Club Was Formed By Chris Frantz And Tina Weymouth, Founding Members Of Talking Heads.

Tom Tom Club was originally formed by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth. Graduates from the Rhode Island School of Design, they moved to New York City where they founded Talking Heads as a trio with David Byrne. Chris played drums, Tina played bass and David sang and played guitar. Talking Heads took a hiatus after five years of touring internationally and four studio albums, and Chris and Tina began the Tom Tom Club.

When legendary reggae producer Lee “Scratch” Perry failed to show up for the scheduled recording sessions in the Bahamas, label chief Chris Blackwell allowed Chris and Tina to produce the album themselves with Jamaican engineer Steven Stanley. Tom Tom Club’s first single was “Wordy Rappinghood,” an unusually original mix of schoolyard rap over a funky groove that went into the top of the charts in 17 countries. “Wordy Rappinghood” turned out to be seminal in bringing mainstream attention to the new spirit of hip-hop.

The group’s second single was the remarkable “Genius of Love.” Released in the UK before North America, the track was bubbling up in the underground with dozens of unsolicited remixes and versions–most notably, Grandmaster Flash’s “It’s Nasty/Genius of Love” in 1982—a massive hit in the clubs and on the R&B and dance charts, soon earning the Tom Tom Club debut a Gold sales award. In 1995, Mariah Carey hit #1 with “Fantasy,” her version of “Genius of Love” featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard rapping over the original instrumental track. “Genius of Love” continues to be frequently sampled by various artists, from Tupac Shakur to most recently, T.I. feat. Fergie and will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. Tom Tom Club continues to celebrate more than thirty years as a band. Last year, they performed their timeless classic “Genius of Love” on NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” It was a flashback to one of the group’s earliest career highlights – playing the hit song on the highly popular TV show “Soul Train” back in 1983 – at a time when it was in heavy rotation on urban radio stations.

In 2002, Frantz and Weymouth were inducted at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The title track from the new album “Downtown Rockers” pays tribute to the many bands that created the downtown music scene in New York City in the 70’s from The Velvet Underground to the Talking Heads. The song was mixed by Ed Stasium, who also recorded and mixed Talking Heads ’77 and umpteen Ramones classics.

NEW SONGS AND VIDEO ONLINE TODAY!

083You can now listen to two of our new songs online, and watch a video for ‘My Shit Is Custom’. Check our Soundcloud for two new recordings, fresh from the mastering engineer this week. They are ‘Strictly Busin£$$’ and ‘My Shit Is Custom’. The latter track is one we wrote in the studio and we will debut it live at our tour launch at Wharf Chambers in Leeds on May 23rd. It will also appear on vinyl this year, more details on that later.

For this latest recording we hired the services of our pal Darren Moore, a great drummer, guitar player and percussion player from Teesside. Darren played congas, agogo bells, and cowbells on the majority of our eight new studio jams, and his playing really is full of feel, soul, and totally in the pocket. We’re sure you will agree.

One again, Ross Halden did a great job recording and mixing, not to mention coming up with some great post-production ideas, which really helped get the songs sounding blazing.

Thanks also to Rendered Eyes for the awesome, mind-bending visuals in the video.

RELEASE YOURSELF III at Wharf Chambers, Leeds, May 4th 2013…..

Logo2Pat, Henry, and Matt host their third party at their favourite co-operative-run venue in Leeds City Centre, Wharf Chambers. Based on the intimate parties hosted by David Mancuso at his legendary loft space in New York during the 1960s and 70s, Release Yourself aims to bring people together in the hope that a shared love of community, music, and dancing can both unite and liberate!

We hope you’ll agree that four months feels like too long since our last party, so we’re really excited to be able to invite you to do it all again on Saturday the 4th of May.

We’d love it if you could all join us on the dance floor for a third night of high energy, free expression and uptempo records that we hope will make for another memorable party.

This time we extend warm greetings to fabulous Manchester-based collective Disco Mums (http://discomums.co.uk/) who will be joining the party and playing some records, as well as RY DJs Matt, Pat, and Henry, plus some familiar faces from the parties last year.

As usual we want to welcome all-comers to unite through a love of music, dancing and each other, to celebrate and respect one another and to just enjoy being excellent together. So come along, bring your friends, smile, laugh, dance, and Release Yourself”.
